Nicola Armstrong, RN/DipHE, Advanced Diploma in Practice Education and Development, BSc (Hons) Practice Development.
Nicola trained at Northumbria University and qualified in 2000. Since then, she has worked within rheumatology, elderly care, acute medicine, orthopaedic rehabilitation and ear, nose and throat. Since 2010, Nicola has worked in the role of Thyroid Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist at Freeman Hospital, Newcastle Upon Tyne. Through her clinical experiences, Nicola has developed a special interest in survivorship issues within thyroid cancer and provides ‘moving on groups’ and survivorship events for patients under her care.
Nicola is an active member of the Thyroid Cancer UK forum: she presents at Thyroid Cancer Nurse Network Meetings and presents annually on the use of Holistic Needs Assessments as part of the Newcastle Upon Tyne trust level 2 psychology training. Alongside her teaching responsibilities, Nicola has co-written a book chapter on the role of the Clinical Psychologist and the Clinical Nurse Specialist in Thyroid Cancer care.
